Katherine started with WJCT as an intern in 2020. During her internship, she covered the 2020 Presidental Election, helped produce local news talk show, First Coast Connect, and the statewide syndicated news program,The Florida Roundup, and wrote the station’s annual local gift guide.

At the conclusion of her internship, Katherine was hired as WJCT’s Associate Producer. She continued producing, First Coast Connect and The Florida Roundup in addition to launching What’s Health Got to Do With It? an hour-long weekly program exploring the national healthcare landscape.

Her stories disseminated high-level scientific and political information to local and national audiences, clearly explaining the most powerful institutions’ impact on their daily lives. Katherine established herself as a relied-upon source of news, information and respite in a tumultuous time for the community.

During her time at WJCT, Katherine championed ethical journalism practices and disability equity.

Her work at the station won numerous awards.

The Florida Roundup

Katherine’s work on The Florida Roundup was honored with the 2021 award for public affairs reporting from the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists and the 2022 award for public affairs reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists. During her time on the statewide syndicated show, she produced dozens of episodes including as exploration of the impacts of Dobbs v Jackson on marginalized folks across Florida, an investigation of the state’s contribution to the January 6 insurrection, and followed the highly controversial Dr. Joseph Ladapo’s rise to Surgeon General.

What’s Health Got to Do with It?

Katherine helped develop and produce WJCT’s newest show, What’s Health Got to Do with It, from the ground up. In the show’s first season, she produced dozens episodes including an exploration of the final frontier of space medicine and the intersection of climate change and healthcare. She hosted a weekly social media mailbag segment where she curated questions from the show’s listenership and posed them to medical experts. In the show’s first year, it was renewed for a second season, reached a national audience, and earned the spot of the highest-ranking program at WJCT.

First Coast Connect

During her time as First Coast Connect’s Associate Producer, Katherine produced hundreds of episodes. Her favorites include Duval County’s historical leap to a blue county during the 2020 Presidental election and gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried’s infamous interview during which she compared Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to Hitler, which gained national attention. She told the stories of Jacksonville’s international award-winning filmmakers and sat in the host chair to discuss how the plight of Argentinian penguins predicts coastal Jacksonville’s battle against climate change.
